CTE Learn credit courses have been designed to support CTE institutions with a comprehensive, virtual professional development program. The information below summarizes the fundamental aspects of CTE Learn credit courses and associated tools that make up CTE Learn’s virtual professional development program.

Course Structure

Participants can enroll in any course at any time and each course takes approximately four hours to complete. Participants can study the course content, take the course assessments, and interact with their peers on their own schedule. Completion of CTE Learn credit courses provides participants with a professional development recognition badge, a certificate of completion, and eligibility to apply for both undergraduate and graduate college credit.

Peer-to-Peer Learning

Each course provides participants with peer-to-peer learning opportunities through a specific performance group created within the Career Ed Lounge, CTE Learn’s online learning community. This allows participants to learn and share with their peers at any time they want, even after they complete the course. Each performance group brings participants from related courses together to enable interaction and learning surrounding a competency area. Participants receive a daily digest of activities in their performance groups with the ability to turn off notifications from any group.

Provision for Coach/Mentor Support

Designated coaches and mentors from institutions can follow their peers in the Career Ed Lounge to review their posts online and via daily digests. This allows coaches/mentors to respond to posts at their discretion and act as facilitators of learning and development for their peers. Additionally, administrators who have access to the institutional “Key Panel” can share user activity reports with coaches/mentors.

Performance Improvement

CTE Learn includes an Individual Development Plan (IDP) tool to help learners identify their performance goals and link their professional development activities to their identified goals. This interactive tool provides a guided process to help learners achieve their performance goals and assess their accomplishments. Learners can use the tool to capture all their developmental activities, online or offline. They can also upload portfolio documentation and evidence to their IDP and download their professional development summary for any time period they select. The IDP is incorporated in each course to prompt learners to identify specific performance goals that they would like to achieve as a result of their learning experiences in the course and add those goals to their IDP.

Institutional Credentials

CTE Learn awards digital badges for completion of each course. CTE Learn badges are powered by open badge technology, allowing learners to openly showcase and share their achievements. Additionally, institutions that have adopted open badges and open pathways can select any of CTE Learn course badges on learning pathways toward their own institutional credentials. This allows institutions to recognize CTE Learn badges as knowledge-based assessments and combine them seamlessly with their own skills-based assessments to award evidence-based professional development credentials.

College Credit

CTE Learn courses are endorsed by the University of Central Missouri (UCM), a regionally accredited public university. Course participants have the opportunity to earn undergraduate or graduate credit for their completed CTE Learn courses. Participants earn 1 Semester Credit Hour (SCH) for any block of 4 CTE Learn courses. Award of graduate credits requires proof of a bachelor’s degree and submission of a reflection paper with each application.
